Heroic Cimberio

Lottomatica Lazio Roma - Cimberio Handicap Sport Varese 43-67 (6-17, 23-31, 35-42)

Lottomatica: Obino 8, Marzioli 2, Torquati, Boscalli, Boonaker, Valentini 6, Cimarelli 11, Boccacci 2, Fares 10, Pennino 4.

Cimberio: Riva 4, Geninazzi 16, Roncari 16, R. Marinello 13, Mazzolini 8, Fiorentini, Silva 6, Paonessa 4.

All. C. Marinello. Arbitri: Santangelo e Trematerra. Cimberio won in Rome and got one of the two “playoff” (the next one is on next Saturday in Malnate against Parma) which will confirm it at the fifth place of the table and then enabling it to participate to the next A1 series championship.

At the right time, Cimberio offered a good team performance, in addition to the technical gap between the two teams. Mainly in defense, Cimberio gave evidence to be in the right spirit to face and beat the opponent (despite the long transfer by bus: a very tiring travel from 5 a.m., i.e. 12 hours before the game). The team of coach Carlo Marinello was always ahead the opponent, and closed the second quarter of the game with a reassuring advantage.

It might be for this that during the second part of the game, Lazio recuperated a little (35-42 the score at 30’), with the risk of compromising the result. However, during the last quarter Cimberio activated turbo and put to sea definitively with a superiority never being in discussion during the whole game.

Now, Cimberio has to focused on the game against Parma scheduled on next Saturday at 21:00 in Malnate: this is the most important game of the championship for Riva and the team. Another victory would enable Cimberio to gain the fifth place of the table definitively. We would like to stress that Parma lost against the head of the table Bergamo for just one point (54-55), as evidence that nothing is taken for granted.
